What does receding gum mean?
When the gum recedes, the tooth root is exposed. An exposed root causes sensitivity and, aesthetically, makes teeth look long or the gum line uneven. Left alone, more of the root shows and tooth longevity can suffer.

- Is there pain afterwards?
- The procedure is done under painless local anaesthesia, so there is little pain during it. Some discomfort for 1-2 days afterwards is possible, but most resume daily life without trouble.
- How long is recovery?
- With a palatal donor site, early recovery takes about 1-2 weeks and full recovery 4-6 weeks. During this time we recommend gentle, non-irritating meals and soft oral care.
- Does harvesting tissue from the palate hurt a lot?
- The palatal donor site is harvested minimally under painless anaesthesia, with protective care applied. A little foreign-body sensation or discomfort is possible for the first few days, but it heals gradually.
- Can the gum recede again?
- If the cause — improper brushing, grinding — is not addressed, it can recur. Correct oral care and regular check-ups after the procedure are key to maintaining the result.
